Making a gift to the Foundation

Making a Bequest

A bequest is the act of giving personal property or money to an organisation in your Will.  Personal property such as real estate or shares can be held as an investment bearing asset or sold and the proceeds invested. It is a way of enabling you to support the causes that are close to your heart and providing a lasting legacy that can help others.

The first step is to choose the type of bequest you would like to set up for the hospital. The second step is to formalise the bequest by either creating or updating your Will.

Types of Bequests

There are different types of bequests which include:

  • A percentage of your estate
This ensures that other beneficiaries are not affected by changes in the size of your estate or by inflation.
  • The residue of your estate
The monies and assets remaining after providing for other beneficiaries and debts.
  • A specific asset
This may be in the form of real estate, shares, bonds or particular items of value.
  • A specific sum of money
You can nominate a specific amount you are comfortable with.

If you would like to make a bequest we recommend you seek independent, professional advice from a Solicitor to guide you on the wording of your Will and to ensure the Will is legal, valid and meets your wishes.

Donations

While monetary gifts or donations no matter how small or large can be given to the Foundation and are gratefully received, please be aware you are unable to direct them to a specific area, service or purpose.  All funds are placed in the perpetuity fund and the Foundation Board will direct where the income generated from these pooled funds is allocated.
